I'll be in the city in mid-May and am looking for an Italian restaurant that won't totally break the bank but with really good food.(Could I trust the veal?) I've got three suggestions: Marinella, Perbacco and Supper. Could anyone please recommend one over another? Thanks in advance.

  1. Any particular neighborhoods preferred? Also, what's your def of breaking the bank? I like Osteria Laguna on 42nd near GCT but it's not the most "fun" neighborhood. Also, Scarpetta is nice on West 14th and even though it's kind of hyped the food is good and relatively affordable. If you need to go downscale from there in price, identify your price range including drinks.

Around $75-per person including drinks. A fun neighborhood would be good. Any comments on my three ideas?

You could actually do Hearth at that price, and I'd recommend it.

    2. my two favorite Italian restaurants are Cacio e Vino (moderate/cheap) and Scarpetta (pricier)...

      1. I like Col Legno in the East Village.

I'm sorry to tell you that it closed several months ago. I liked it, too.

Wow, that sucks. Thanks for letting me know. I was looking forward to eating there in July.

        2. Il Bagato is in the East Village (fun area, tons of bars etc...) and is excellent while very moderately priced.

          1. Have only been to Perbacco.
