What is comparable to Stella's?

Okay, I just got back from N.O. and had a fabulous time. I already booked my next trip for the end of July and wanted to know what other restaurants are comparable to Stella's? I ate there last Friday night and absolutely loved it. I will go back to Stella's on my next trip, but wanted some other suggestions for similar type restaurants (similar types of food). Chowhound has not let me down yet. Oh yeah, I will be posting about my five day New Orleans food frenzy in the near future (just as soon as I get my suit case unpacked). All I can say is Marvelous!

  1. The only thing even remotely comparable is August, but even that approaches cuisine from a more traditional and Louisiana-based perspective.

my thoughts exactly. Stella's style is pretty unique in New Orleans, even though that style is now pretty common around the world. Most nola joints are high end takes on louisiana/southern food. August is the closest thing, but Besh definitely focuses on doing louisiana food in a haute style.

Here is a third rec. for Restaurant August.

For the food, though different, I would recommend Brigtsen's

Another, that impressed us on the high-end is The Grill Room (formally the New Orleans Grill and formerly The Grill Room) at the Windsor Court.

        Restaurant August
301 Tchoupitoulas Street, New Orleans, LA 70130

        Brigtsen's Restaurant
723 Dante St, New Orleans, LA 70118

        Windsor Court Hotel
300 Gravier Street, New Orleans, LA 70130

    2. Stella! is unique. Other suggestions would be August and Mila.

MiLa was good for us, but it ranked down to about the level of Cuvée - good, but behind these other two. Though it's more "homey," that "haute," I'd place Brigtsen's above, by a large margin.

        Cuvee Restaurant
322 Magazine Street, New Orleans, LA 70130

817 Common Street, New Orleans, LA 70112

      2. no one talks of Bistro Daisy here, and I haven't been, but I've read great reports on other boards.
also, check out Lilette and Iris.

Vizard's is another place that doesn't get much play on the board. It's a lovely small dining room, and the food is super. It's perfect for a small celebration or a romantic evening.

        2. just trying to attach the link to Bistro Daisy.
