Cooking show host media doppelgangers

greygarious Apr 21, 2009 11:35 AM

Small h's analogy that Rachael Ray is the Barney of cooking show hosts will be hard to beat, but what kiddie or talk show hosts are the equivalent of what cooking show hosts?

Joanne Weir....Shari Lewis
Chris Kimball....Charles Osgood, William Buckley
Paula Deen....which Teletubby?

        Alton Brown = Elton John

Even their name structure is similar.

Bob Tuschman = Kermit the frog.

          Carla Hall is Red Fraggle.
Alex Guarnaschelli is Lucy van Pelt.
Rachel Ray is of course, The Joker.

The Fraggle reference was made when Carla first showed up on Top Chef on the various TC recaps. :-)

I amend my OP: watching all the old Andy Griffith Show clips in the wake of the star's death, I realize that Barney Fyfe (actor Don Knotts) resembled both Chris Kimball and, in exasperated facial expressions, Jon Cryer's Two-and-a-Half Men character.

              Bobby Flay = Howdy Doody

Mario Batali = comic book store owner on The Simpsons

If they ever do a Gordon Ramsey biopic, the title role should go to an actor named Sebastian Roche.

Conveniently, he always seems to be cast as a villain (General Hospital's Jerry Jax, terrorist on 24, et. al.) The resemblance is uncanny.

thank you for the Giada and Booby Flay comparisons! i was racking my brain trying to figure out who it would be for those two...Betty Boop and Barney Rubble are great choices :)

got any ideas for Guy Fieri? i'm stumped on that one...

now that i think about it, he's Bart dressed in Poochie's clothing!

                        Good call on Pouchie.

I was thinking perhaps Animal from the Muppets.

Sandra Lee...Kathie Lee Gifford (i'm convinced they're the twin spawn of Satan who were separated at birth)
Curtis Aikens...Al Roker. (he isn't on the air anymore AFAIK, but he always reminded me of Al)
                        Alton Brown...Mr. Wizard
                        George Duran...Jimmy Kimmel

ghg - your first one is spot on! (But then you might know I'd say that of both of those spawn, didn't you? <vbg>)

I don't know George Duran...but having looked him up, the resemblance is there (although he also reminds me of Duff on Ace of Cakes).

George Duran used to host "Ham on the Street," and then he took over for Jim O'Connor on "The Secret Life Of..."
