Around DC with kids

We will be visting DC soon and doing the normal touristy stuff. We would love to have some suggestions for local restaurants near the mall and other attractions that are good to go with kids. We prefer to eat sort of healthy. We are open to trying new things. We love Thai.

  1. I like Full Kee, pretty near the Portrait Gallery/Gallery of American Art. There is a Thai restaurant near there too, but it is kind of generic. Full Kee is rather authentic and has great, friendly service and a family atmosphere. Check out the noodle soups and the roasted meats. Teaism is pretty good too, but a little more expensive and more done-up, not as casual. Also there is a tapas place near there called Jaleo that is pretty popular on this board iirc. Cowgirl Creamery has fancy cheeses. There are some good new food carts downtown but I don't know which is which yet, so you might want to look into that. Finally, the Ethiopian food around U Street (not really so near the mall, but there are cabs) is supposed to be the best in the country.

    1. There is a salad bar chain called Chop't on 7th street, a few blocks from the mall, National Archives, Spy Museum, National Gallery, Newseum etc., for healthful choices. Also on 7th street is a Portuguese flame grilled chicken place called Nando's Peri Peri. Both are good, but end up being more expensive than you would think.
