According to Serious Eats, we should be seeing sugar Pepsi in stores starting today. Any sightings in or around Baltimore? (Specifically, in the Catonsville area.)

Pepsi is test-marketing a version that is made with pure cane sugar, as opposed to high-fructose corn syrup. Similar to what Coke does at Passover-time in Jewish-heavy markets, or the Mexican Coke products that onocoffee referred to.

DC/Baltimore is one of the test markets. It will probably be widely available once they get into the distribution channel.

I found single 20-oz bottles of Pepsi Throwback and Mountain Dew Throwback at the Walmart in Eldersburg on Sunday for $1 each. I haven't seen them in Howard County yet nor have I seen them in the 12-pack cans, which should have a 1-year shelf life. I tried one of the Mountain Dews this morning and it is very good, crisp, clean, not cloying. I've read this will be a LTO for the next two months and not a permanent line extension.

That works, actually. We have family in White Marsh and they drive down every weekday to Catonsville for work.

Seems like everyone is running out quick, or had very little to begin with. The St Johns Ln Safeway was out by the time I got there, but they are expecting more any day now.

Even though all managers at Giant stores told me they never heard of it, some employees stocking shelves said they had it, but ran out. I made certain they understood I was asking about Pepsi and not Coke. Giant's Consumer Affairs hotline says they only carry non-HFCS Coke, not Pepsi. Very unimpressed with their customer service.

I just called Pepsi at 800-433-2652 and was informed that Pepsi Natural and Pepsi Throwback are two completely different products with completely different recipes. Throwback is just regular Pepsi with sugar instead of HFCS. Natural is something else altogether. The nice customer service lady even read me the ingredients of the two. :)

Pepsi Throwback: CARBONATED WATER, SUGAR, CARAMEL COLOR, PHOSPHORIC ACID, CAFFEINE, NATURAL FLAVOR

Pepsi Natural: SPARKLING WATER, SUGAR, NATURAL APPLE EXTRACT (COLOR), CARAMEL COLOR, CITRIC ACID, CAFFEINE, ACACIA GUM, TARTARIC ACID, LACTIC ACID, NATURAL FLAVOR, KOLA NUT EXTRACT
