The Great Haleumi Search - Where Can You Find it in the Capital Region?

  • 9

This weekend I tried to find some haleumi. Went to Roma, a few Price Choppers (bought it there once) and a Hannaford. Is it possible to find haleumi in the Capital Region? If yes, where do you buy it?

Thanks in advance for your help.

  1. Honest Weight Food Coop for all your cheese needs, including Mount Vikos haloumi. Fantastic cheese department, lovingly overseen by Gustav and his minions.

PSZaas, thanks so much (and for the correct spelling).

De nada. What you REALLY should thank me for is tipping you off to the cheese counter at Honest Weight. A really professional crew, who really love cheese.

          So it's Murray-ish but in Albany :)

          When I move we're starting a cooking club . . . .

            strong second on that.
Honest Weight has The Best cheese selection in the Albany area. They're super friendly and always are offering tastes.
Only downside is that they pre-cut all their cheeses.

They'll cut any cheese you want, on the spot. Quality control on the pre-cut wedges is pretty good, but I usually ask them for freshly-cut cheeses. Have they ever refused to cut a piece for you?

Honest Weight cheese people are the best in customer service. They have never refused to cut a fresh piece for me, if they have it.

      2. If you have a Whole Foods they sell it there!

Thanks, lollypop. Whole Foods and Trader Joe's are not in the Capital Region. I don't always know ahead of time, otherwise I buy harder to find items in the city and bring them with me.

Roma Foods has harissa. Can't do without that either.
