Best Corn Tortillas?

What's your favorite corn tortilla to buy? I'm way too lazy to make them myself but I've been saddened by my choices at Whole Foods and HEB. Suggestions?

  1. Mr. Natural has really good ones, but they charge .25 each if you buy them to go. The manager told me where they get their dough from. I want to say El Lago, but I can't be sure.

On second thought, it might be El Milagro where he said they get them from

el milagro is right nearby the east side mr. natural, so that would make sense.

    2. I'd head over to El Milagro Tortilleria and buy them there. It's been a while since I've bought corn tortillas there but I'm addicted to their flour tortillas.

910 E 6th St - just a block or two east of I35 at the corner of 6th and San Marcos.

Definitely El Milagro. The white corn ones are made fresh daily (day old ones are sold cheap), soft and not sour. Open early every morning (including Sundays). Plus you can fresh chips, flour tortillas, whole wheat tortillas, chicarrones, and masa by the lb.

I love this place. Also their bags of chips are much cheaper from the source than from most grocery stores.

I have found the homemade corn tortillas from central market (when you can find them) are pretty good for frying (super thin) but tend to get destroyed when rolled.

      2. sazon has awesome corn tortillas.

        1. In my opinion the best store corn tortillas in Austin are at El Milagro. From the restaurants that make their own my favorites are Chango's, El Meson and Curras makes a pretty good red corn tortilla.

          1. Tortilleria Rio Grande (on Braker, just east of I35) has AWESOME fresh corn tortillas. They are $2 for 2 lbs (which is approximately 30 tortillas).

            1. I always buy my corn tortillas from Jorge's on Hancock. If you call first, you don't have to wait and you can pick them up steaming hot. Can't beat that.
