I am taking my best girlfriend away for a weekend this July to celebrate her upcoming marriage. We share a love for cooking and eating, and I would love to take her to an inn or farm where we could take cooking classes, learn about regional fare, and eat (both on the site and off) at great local farm-to-table restaurants. Does anyone know of any such places in the South? South Carolina is the farthest we can drive.

Fearrington Village is close to Chapel Hill, NC. They have cooking classes, lodging, restaurant. This puts you in the Triangle area - Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill. Good food, including a lot of regional fare abounds.

Also in NC, but in the mountains near Asheville is this:

The area is beautiful and very food oriented. More of an organic and local influence, a little harder to find regional specialties.

would likely be pricey but i think the greenbriar does similar things. i've heard the cooking classes there are quite nice and it's beautiful.

i did go to a fun cooking demonstration/dinner at the chef's table in williamsburg but i'd need help from other people as to other cooking things to do around there. certainly are some other nice restaurants and fun places to wander. the chef who ran it i thought was really approachable - although you might learn MORE from one of his regular classes the cooking dinner was fun.
