Best Restaurants on North Shore

Dallas Alice Apr 20, 2009 12:05 PM

We'll be visiting New England in a few weeks, and while we have some dining plans for Boston, we will be arriving at Logan late in the afternoon and need to drive to family in Hamilton, so we won't have time to head into the city for dinner.

We would really appreciate recommendations for a great meal somewhere on our way to, or relatively near, Hamilton -- i.e., Beverly, Ipswitch, Salem, Peabody, anywhere. Price isn't an issue, great food is the only criterion. We would especially like a first-class oyster bar or seafood place (the Gulf oysters we have in Texas are putrid compared to New England oysters).

Thanks in advance. Go Sox!

I'd seriously consider one of the seafood shack spots (The Clam Box in Ipswich or J.T. Farnham's in Essex) or perhaps The Village Restaurant, also in Essex.

I'm not such a big fan of the Red Rock Bistro. The view can be great depending on where you sit, but the food's just pretty good and the service can have an attitude problem. And it's not especially close to Hamilton.

Salem has quite a few excellent restaurants. If you get a chance try 62 on Wharf, they have hand made pastas and wonderful scallops. If you are interested in Greek food, Ithaki in Ipswich is exceptional. I second the seafood shacks mentioned here, and just read this post about re: Oyster Bar in Beverly Farms: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/613487

Also in Salem, the Grapevine (isn't that the name? That or Vineyard) is quite nice. It's not a seafood restaurant, but I believe they have seafood options.
