any recommendations for a good raw bar on Anna Maria Island or closeby?

We'll be heading to Anna Maria Island next spring (Easter break) and I wondered if anyone had any recommendations for a good raw bar...some fresh oysters at a reasonable price. This is our first trip to AMI so really, I welcome any suggestions on "not to miss" spots. whether it be fine dining or local favorite hole-in-the-wall establishments.

  1. Try Anna Maria Oyster Bar, 6696 Cortez Road, Bradenton. Phone: 792-0077. The website for this restaurant says that they are five minutes from the gulf. I've eaten at the branch of this restaurant in Ellenton and the raw oysters range from good to superb. Keep in mind, however, that these are Florida oysters, which tend to be bigger and meatier (very good), but less briney than those up north (not as good).

They do a great job with Oysters Rockefeller and Oysters Casino. I don't think I've ever seen Oysters Bienville on the menu, but I could be wrong. Good clam chowder, too--lots of clam meat and not overthickened.
