Tapas tonight?

Hi,

I want to go for a romantic dinner with my DH tonight. I'm in the mood for tapas. We live in the UES, but don't mind traveling. :-)

  1. I like Pipa, Casa Mono and Alta for tapas. On the UES, it's limited. The only Spanish restaurant I can think about is La Malaga on 73rd.

Casa Mono serves Batali's take on Spanish tapas. However, while I like the food, the atmospherics are not, imo, in any way romantic.

      1. Might be too late, but I have been going to this place for many years, and it is still one of my favorites.

          2. Thanks guys. We ended up going to Inoteca (the one on 3rd Ave & 24th), which as you know serves Italian "small plates." It's not particularly romantic. They have to pull the tables out so you can squeeze in (one of my pet peeves). But I did like the food & wine we had. They were kinda slow bringing the food to the table, but were quick about clearing the dishes. We had a cheese plate, rucola salad, spaghettini with ramps, bruschette plate (I especially loved the fig & mascarpone. The pesto was also excellent),lasagnette, fried risotto balls, and a nutella panino for dessert.

I went to Degustation for my birthday. We did the 5 course tasting menu with the 5 course wine tasting. I liked 4 out of 5 courses, there was one fish course I wasn't too keen on. I really loved the torija. I felt rushed with the courses, even though the restaurant wasn't too crowded. They were filling my glass with the wine for the next course before I finished, the course & still had 1/2 a glass of wine sitting on the table.
But it was fun watching them cook. The chef is really cute!

Romantic it is not, you are right. You can barely hear yourself think in there.
