"Green Rice" in Chicago

acme Apr 18, 2009 08:24 PM

Just read a article about green rice...I know about black, red, and pink rice but green rice? I looked up some older posts and they described its flavor as tasting like green tea, which I find intriguing. I would now like to try it; has anyone seen green rice in Chicago, in particular in Chinatown? Thanks!

I was at F&O yesterday. Right now they carry a green rice called Jade Pearl, which according to the label is infused with bamboo. So not sure about the green tea taste. It looks like green carnaroli.

Well, it's still good. And they have the smaller, bottled version back.

I've never seen it at a restaurant, but I've seen it at Fox and Obel and bought it a few times. I've tried it, and it does have a bit of a nutty taste with green tea overtones, and came out fluffier than, say, jasmine rice. I don't know if there are any restaurants serving green rice in Chicago, but I do remember seeing red rice at Shanghai Terrace two or there years ago and about five years ago at Flattop Grill.
