good bar/lounge for a small impromptu party?

looking for a place with no velvet ropes, no attitude. Good drinks and good, cool place to meet 15+ walk in friends i havent seen for a while. any neighborhood from west hollywood to silverlake, though I definately like the east side better. any suggestions?

Did Melrose Bar & Grill close? Thought I heard that.
Since it's going to be a warm weekend, the patios at Cliff's Edge or Edendale Grill (both in Silverlake) might be really nice. You might have to order some appetizers at Cliff's Edge....not sure.

I was there pretty recently and it was open. Plus I get regular emails from them alerting me of their happy hour specials...I think I got one this past Thursday.
