Dining Solo in Nob Hill area?

  • 3

Staying at Fairmont in May... will be entertaining myself while my husband is stuck in meetings from morning 'til late night. Any great suggestions for eating dinner solo in the area? Any restaurants with a bad rap for treating single patrons poorly... not sure if there is any truth to this, you can all clear this up, but rumor has it San Fran doesn't seem to be very solo diner friendly... I have a hard time believing that...but any 2 cents very welcome on that.

Thanks all!

  1. Here's a thread with a followup by a single diner. Perhaps you can get some ideas.

    1. In the Nob Hill area, I recommend 1550 Hyde and Canteen. Luella is okay too (decent food & nice atmosphere), though it doesn't blow me away. All three places have bar/counter seating, which I find is great for solo dining. I especially like the service at 1550 Hyde - they'll never treat you poorly.

Or if you want something a bit more casual, I like Olea. It's more of a neighborhood place, homey, good food, nice atmosphere.

Wolfe, thanks for linking me to that great list! There are great suggestions and a great update, I did see it and thought maybe there were some new restaurants, etc. since then!
