Thoughts on Bakey's in the Financial District?

Curious about what people think about Bakey's on Broad St in the financial district. While I hate to admit it, I saw a piece on that PG show that focused on the sandwiches which of course, I thought looked pretty good. So whose been and what are your thoughts? Should I bother?

  1. I wasn't too impressed. The chicken salad sandwich was boring, and it was really expensive. I also didn't see what was so great about the "famous beans." That said, I hate to see places like this disappear, seeing as it's clearly been there since the paleolithic era.

    1. It's a great place to meet an old friend or have a casual business lunch, but the food isn't memorable in spite of seeming pretty fresh and homemade - and the prices just reflect the neighborhood (high overhead).

      1. I've worked in the financial district for 10+ years, and I've never been a fan. Sandwiches are OK, but overpriced. It has its supporters, though, and they tend to be very enthusaistic. Me, I'd go to Dooley's down the block for a burger.

Ditto ditto. Stylistically, the sandwiches remind me a bit of Sam Lagrassa's: overstuffed, basic American affairs. Perfectly fine for a casual business lunch, but not worth driving across town for. I dig the vibe though.
