Looking for lunch recs near Getty, Venice Beach, Brentwood or Santa Monica
I know - could I make up my mind?
I have a friend flying into LAX Saturday around 10:30 from the midwest and we are going to check out The Getty at some point on Saturday (it's open til 9 at night). She also wants to meet for drinks late afternoon or lunch early afternoon with her 21 year old nephew. So, I'm looking for recommendations in all areas listed above so I can be ready for whatever the plan is based on how she feels when she gets off the plane and when her nephew is available.
Looking for reasonably priced restaurant with healthy food (raw food restaurant might be cool) that tastes amazing and prefer something that is LA centric.
thanks in advance for your recommendations,
San Diego chowhound
Akasha or Organic Panificio for lunch; have her nephew meet you. Katsuya or Wilshire patio for dinner is also fun; get a reservation now.
2454 Wilshire Boulevard, Santa Monica, CA 90404
9543 Culver Blvd, Culver City, CA 90232
The Organic Panificio Cafe and Restaurant
4211 Admiralty Way, Marina Del Rey, CA 90292
dear god, stay away from Organic Panificio!
Gjelina in Venice on Abbot Kinney is a VERY quintessential LA experience, and the food is great!
Axe (pronounced Ah-shay), also on Abbot Kinney has a great healthy-yet-interesting lunch with lots of raw options, great soups, and killer seasonal salads. also very LA centric, even displaying the names of the local farms that provide the produce (a cliche now, I know, but they've been in business here for 10 years!)
Brunch at Joe's in Venice
healthy could be lunch at A Votre Sante in Brentwood on San Vicente
Lunch at the Getty
Could also do lunch at the Cafe at Fred Segal in SaMo - some healthy options and highly LAcentric
agree with drinks at The Wilshire or for a quintessential LA with a view experience get drinks at The Penthouse at the Huntley in SM, or at the Viceroy
for raw you've got Juliano's in SaMo or Leaf Cuisine in Culver City
As far as raw food goes, I am not too sure where to recommend. But I can make some recommendations otherwise.
I would try out:
Huckleberry, on Wilshire Blvd. in Santa Monica
Cora's on Ocean Blvd. in Santa Monica
Gjelina on Abbott Kinney in Venice
Those are my three favorites, as of right now. They have healthy, and some unique dishes, with amazing flavor. They are reasonably priced. Cora's and Gjelina will be a longer wait than Huckleberry's.
I agree with previous posts about lunch/dinner at the Getty. It is really nice to check out the art and then stroll over to dinner. Even the casual grab n go cafes are okay. The Getty just has a fabulous view and setting.
