Hey friends. Going to be on a wine tasting jaunt along the North Fork this weekend...any can't miss food suggestions? I've been told to consider North Fork Table and Antares Cafe... any thoughts? Looking for breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee, other random edible delights. Cheers

Defintely have dinner at North Fork Inn and Table. We had a fabulous meal there last August. We have had wonderful meals at the Frisky Oyster, but other posters haven't been as pleased. I don't know Antares Cafe. The Jamesport COuntry Kitchen is good, and we always like stopping in at Brauns, which now has an eat-in cafe. It will be cold, though!

I heard Farmer's Bar is reopening soon, owner of Pepe's took it over. Maybe on your next trip...that used to be great for lunch.

I love Junda's Bakery in Jamesport for breakfast pastries.

Thanks for the advice. Here's my weekend recap in no particular order...We did indeed have lunch at North Fork Table and it was fantastic, as advertised. House cured salmon and the scallops were especially notable. Great space, great service, and mad props to the wine list...perrect combo of local and interesting wines. Other notes...Jundas? Unbelievable. Special shout out to coll for this one... from my cardiologist. The baker at Junda's directed us to Love Lane Kitchen in Matituck for (second?) breakfast. Great place, homey, friendly, solid food and proper iced coffee....wished we had more time to come back for dinner and beer. A cute little cheese shop also lives across the street... Speaking of cheese, we stumbled upon a fridge'o'goat cheese at some random nursery. Capatanos, I think it was called. So sweet, so buttery, so good...Winery notes....overall I think Shinn Estates had the best portfolio, their sav blanc//semillion was my weekend fav. Also loved the chenin blanc at Paumanok....across the board I was disappointed by the oft touted merlots (disclaimer: not a big merlot fan to begin with) though I did have a momentary yet torrid love affair with the super stanky 01 estate selection from Lenz...brief because they wouldn't let me buy a bottle without out becoming a wine club member... in the "if I were to stock my North Fork beach estate" award the hands down winner is Peconic Bay. Numerous delightfully quaffable whites and reds...I still have visions of steel fermented chardonnay washing down bushels of oysters dancing in my head...Stop by Old Field not so much for the wine but for the experience of talking to growers super-passionate about farming well...Biggest bummer of the weekend was that no one working the cooler at Brauns knew where the oysters came from!! Overall, a great trip..thanks to any North Forkers who happen upon this

With all due respect, to refer to Catapano's goat cheese/farm as some random nursery ignores the fact that Catapano's produces great, award winning goat cheese.

No worries, wasn't being pejorative. We literally found this cheese in a fridge stuck in the corner of a nursery, not at a farm/market/or specialty grocer. This, in my mind, is a fantastic thing and speaks volumes of the folks at Catapano's. It seems the best food finds often come either by word of mouth or pure happenstance. Awards are awards but happening upon a great cheese by the side of the road is truly a memorable day

Glad you had such a good time, and the weather turned out gorgeous, despite predictions.
Cool that you found Catapano's accidentally, it's a destination for a lot of people (me for the cheese, husband for the baby goats!).
Also, thank YOU for the wine recs, I have company coming and they always want to do a tour of places they haven't been. I'm more with the farms and chickens, etc, then we always end up at the same old touristy vineyards. Time to branch out!

Ooh. Definitely check out Old Field. You will be tasting wine with their pet goose, duck and all sorts of chickens at your feet! My friend from suburban Jersey nearly fell off the patio at such a close encounter with live poultry!

Is that the one near Shinn? I keep meaning to stop in, but always accidently pass it by.

Oh never mind, I googled it. We don't usually take 25, like to stay on the North Rd, but I think we'll take a detour next time. The place I mentioned above was recommended by the owners of Shinn, it's around the corner from them, and also on my list. Getting tired of Martha Clara at this point, but that's where family always wants to go!

I just drove by Old Field last night, it's on the Main Road just before you hit Greenport, looks really different, not so touristy. Bin 48 is Bidwell, I'm due to stop in there soon too. Just have to wait until there's no organized activities going on there.

One other lunch spot worth mentioning is Erik's up on the North Road (Route 48) in Southold. I've never eaten there for breakfast, but his lunches are great and the specials change daily. Make sure to upgrade to the sweet potato fries with maple mayo, yum!
