Ragbrai 2009 [Moved from Midwest Board]

  • 3

We're in the initial phases of starting to plan our menu for the church booth in Brighton, IA. Looking for favorites you've experienced in the past (food, drinks and entertainment). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. It's always hard knowing what you're looking for on a hot summer day during a bike ride across Iowa :)

Thanks a bunch!

  1. ia,

I haven't done RAGBRAI (yet) but do similar multi-day tours every summer. I get pretty sick of sweet stuff, fruit and baked goods after a couple days. My favorite things I've encountered have been pork chops on a stick, brisket sandwiches, kebabs and the like. Also, cornish pasties...one helped me finish a long day on the MS TRAM last year up on the MN Iron Range. I'd probably kill for a good, authentic-style taco on a soft corn tortilla during a long day of riding.

I guess I would say anything that involves meat and is fairly easy to eat.

    1. Frozen chunks of watermelon and pineapple on sticks are always a refreshing treat.

      1. Ditto MSPD. You quickly tire of bagels, bananas, peanut butter, and fig bars. After long, hot, and/or hard rides, I want protein and salt. I remember one dinner on another ride that was roasted chicken, cole slaw, and potato salad--I can't remember the last time a meal tasted so good. You can't ride on that (i.e., you can't eat it for lunch and expect to be able to ride) but boy was it great at the end of the day!
