Monday's celebration with cocktails and small bites was at Beretta. My favorite of the dishes we shared was the springy green asparagus risotto topped with a dab of creamy robiola cheese.

Most of our cocktails ordered from the drinks menu were listed there at about $9 each. I especially liked the Airmail, made with rum, honey, lime and prosecco. The surprise on the bill was the $12 price for Tanqueray and tonic. The friend who ordered it left early, leaving a tenspot behind for her drink, so I didn't get a chance to ask her if there was something terribly special about it. Any idea why so much for this one?

I wonder if they make their own tonic? My favorite cocktail here is the Lonsdale.

Did you get a chance to try the chicken liver crostini or sardines en saor?

I had asked that question of a friend who's there frequently and she didn't think so, but wasn't absolutely sure. I hope to hear from someone out there who might know.

Nope, I was interested in the sardines, and now I'm sorry we didn't order them. I'd had a big lunch, so just let the others decide what to choose. We had the roasted beets with ricotta salata, baccalau with polenta, risotto, and the pizza with potato, rosemary, radicchio, and gorgonzola dolce. The pizza was tasty, but the crust was kind of stiff and lacquered with too much melted cheese.
