Is there anywhere to get pierogies near Penn Station?

Having lived on them on the LES 20 years ago, I still crave them. And I have basically tomorrow morning and walking distance to Penn Station to satisfy the urge. Any help is utterly, utterly appreciated. Polish/Russian/Ukranian diners? Diners in general?

  1. I don't think there is. Diners, yes (but I hardly ever eat anything but Korean food in that vicinity and sure couldn't tell you which diners around there might be any good). Pierogies? I have my doubts (and I realize mandoos don't count in this case). If there's any way you could find a way to take the subway from 34th and 6th to 8th St. and go to Ukrainian East Village or one of the other places that still exist on the Lower East Side (aka East Village), that would really be your best bet.

I would suggest taking the N R W train to 8th Street (a quick ride) and go to Stage Restaurant or Ukrainian National Home on 2nd Avenue. You can take them to-go if you're pressed for time.
