Searching within quotes - next page problem

Paulustrious Apr 11, 2009 11:09 AM

Let me give an example. On the Ontario Board I can search for ....

East York

It will return many hits with, sufficient to have multiple pages. I can now got to page 2,3,4 or next by clicking the number at the bottom of the page.

However if I enter the search criteria in quotes...

"East York"

It finds those items where the the two words are contiguous - perfect. However the 2,3,4,next thing doesn't work. It takes me to a new search page.

I just tried a search for "Ocean City" on the Mid-Atlantic board and got the error message the first time.

"Your search for %22ocean city%22 did not return any results."

Just Ocean City (no quotes) gives results that are way too broad to be useful.

Another try at "Ocean City" now just returns Application Error pages.

Come on engineers. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE just revert to the last search engine. It always worked. This one almost never works. Whatever business reasons justified the change surely can't be more convincing than the need to have a search engine that actually... well, searches.

I can confirm that the search mechanism has changed as per your post.

          "East York" now returns...

Your search for %22east york%22 did not return any results.

          It looks like they fixed my problem :-{

I'll raise a problem ticket for Engineering on this, but in the mean time, if you change the %22 back to " on that page and search again, you should get your results.

Or you can use the old search
            http://www.chow.com/search?search%5Bq...

I bookmarked my search for the SF board. It still works though the top doesn't look as pretty. You would just need to make changes to suit yourself and bookmark that.

Again i will ask NOT to take this away until search is fixed.

Another problem with the new search is that it doesn't allow the option to open a search result in a new tab or window using IE8. This is really a pain.
