Morel Mushrooms in Kansas City 2009?

I'm seeing some rumblings on the 'net. Anyone seeing them yet?
Farmers Market, McGonigles?

Has anyone gone to the Richmond MO Morel Fest in May? I'm thinking of making the trip this year.

There was a guy in the Price Chopper parking lot tonight when we were leaving - selling them out of his trunk. The Price Chopper was on Vivion & N Oak.

They had both ramps and morels at Whole Foods in Overland Park over the weekend. $48 per pound.

Choke, gag, cough cough. $48/lb, aaacckkk!.

I saw them at the city market last year for 30. I thought that was too much. Hopefully they'll have them there this year.

They tend to start hi and then come down over the next few weeks.

One year Price Chopper allowed them to completely dry out. They were a bargain without the weight of the water, and good as new after a minute or two in water.

I find that hilarious! One time I lucked out at Price Chopper where a produce clerk had destemmed all the bulk portobellos when they were on sale for about $3/lb. I made a mushroom lasagna that night. (I bet the produce manager was angry...) It's when they cut the roots off the leeks, I get a little miffed at the ignorance. But, hey, when their mistake is our gain, right on!

Cosentino's Brookside Market had them Friday, probably available at the P&L store too.

None yet, but this is a bit earlier than I have seen them in the past.
