Gluten Free Danforth

figgycrave Apr 10, 2009 10:51 PM

Just moved to the Danforth area in Toronto. Just wondering if anyone has good leads on restaurants that have *healthy* gluten-free options.

I've been eating A LOT of greek food and I'm getting a bit bored with it.

I've had a few negatives experiences so far:

Allen's refused to toast my gluten-free bread and the waiter was a BIG jerk about it and asked my boyfriend and I to leave.

The waitress at Pulp Kitchen (which some on CHOW have said is gluten-free) told me that the only safe item on the menu were the salads (which didn't look very interesting).

I'm nibbling on a slice of gluten-free pizza pizza as I type and it is absolutely terrible. Cardboard at its best.

And some positive experiences:

Old Nick brunch - they ROCK. (I bring my own toast, though).

Riz - gluten free spring rolls!!

I think that Il Fornello has gluten free pizza and pasta options.

Yes they do, my mom is celiac and lives on the Danforth, Il Fornello is a staple.

Also, Relish on the Danforth offers a celiac menu - http://www.relishbarandgrill.com/celi... - this place gets hit and miss reviews on CH but the few times I've been there I've enjoyed myself, ordered several tapas and a few glasses of wine and had nice service.

Try Mocha Mocha - they have some great salads including a brown rice one that is excellent. I'm sure they would be accommodating.

Sorry for the delay in answering this:

Tea Tree Cafe is located on Danforth just a few stores east of Jones on the south side. Everything looks fantastic. You can certainly get gluten free and dairy free desserts that taste fantastic. I had a black bean burger but I don't know to tell if the bun was a gluten free item.
