Tips for Dining, Eating, and Food Shopping in DC/Baltimore and Suburban Virginia

A New Super Pollo

Falls Church sorta, across from Lake Barcroft, between Annandale and Bailey's Crossroads, in the same shopping center as Harris-Teeter. This is another branch of the chicken place of the same name in Ballston that some folks like quite a bit.

I tried it today. Chicken wasn't quite as juicy as El Pollo Rico and the skin wasn't crisp, but the meat and skin had a good citrus and spice flavor to it. Wide choice of sides including yuca. The yuca was very crisp on the outside and soft and light (not mushy) on the inside. I'd almost suspect that it was the reconstituted version that someone described as looking like it came from a toothpaste tube, but the pieces were quite randomly shaped. I had mine with yuca and a marinated onion-cucumber salad that was quite tasty. They have the same beans and chickpeas as the Ballston location and the new shop is very clean and bright. It's a good place to bring your own fork and knife, though. They supply pretty flimsy plastic and I broke a fork trying to stab the salad.

Good prices, too. Quarter chicken with 2 sides is $5.05 for light, $4.82!!! for dark. They even have a whole fish which I saw someone eating while I was there. A pretty good place, I think.
