We took a walk through Stanford shopping center today and stopped in Sigona's. On special is Belgioioso CreamyGorg, soft gorgonzola type blue cheese from Wisconsin, for $3.99/lb. This is about one-third the usual price. The printed sales circular promotes $4.99/lb, but the in-store signs are the lower price.

The random weight wedges are about a half-pound each with "best by April 21, 2009" dating. We tried a sample in the store and liked it very much. Creamy, good salt levels, well-developed "blueness" and some earthy/mushroomy notes. The cheese is ripe and in good condition with no ammoniated aromas or flavors.

The Sigona's on Middlefield Rd in Redwood City has that special along with a number of other other RWC only specials because the Costco across the street is closed for renovations and they want to keep customers coming to Sigona's during the next couple of months. This week I got a coupon for a free Rocky Jr. chicken with a $30 purchase. Last week I got one for free pasta (Del Verde,) sauce and wine. I also have a coupon for a free jar of pepper relish and a free piece of Gina Marie cream cheese. All you have to do to get these is join their Preferred Customer Email Alert on the Home Page at http://www.sigonas.com.

Here's a link to their blog for a list of coupons:

Nancy when I was at RWC Costco on Monday I was told that it will be closed for seven months. So it will be alone for a while.

Thanks for the web site.

Cool. I noticed the extensive bulk olive oil selection at the Stanford store. I didn't have enough time to taste through them, but I'm wondering if anyone has any particular recommendations. Prices seemed quite reasonable.
