Grotto gratifying
Had a great dinner at Grotto last night. Grotto is mentioned frequently here, but haven't seen a thread for it in a while.
Shared the fonduta to start: cheezy truffle-y and the dipping beef was perfect (well, sliiiightly too rare for my DC). Of course we used the bread to scoop out the fondue remains from the pot.
I had the pork entree (Miele? Miale? I forget). Pork tenderloin sliced and served over polenta, spinach and caramelized onions, and brushed lightly with a cranberry sauce. WHAT A PERFECT ARRANGEMENT OF FLAVORS. Comfort food at its finest. I thought I would be indifferent to the cranberry element, but it really worked well with the whole.
DC had the spaghetti and meatballs. WOW. I don't remember that being so good. I had it once a coupla years ago, and don't recall being wowed. This time, yes, WOW. A good amount of porkiness really set this apart. It is a huge serving, so I'm looking forward to stealing some of the leftovers later.
The wine list seems to skew a little on the pricey side, compare to the food prices, but we really enjoyed the Hook & Ladder Cab blend for $44; it went great with the food.

I like those meatballs a lot, too. They're now on the cafe menu at Marliave as sliders, nice.

re: Alcachofa
As at most places in Boston serving "sliders", Marliave kind of abuses the term. I want a slider to be something I can eat in a couple of bites, like the famous White Castle steamed burgers, but these are enormous, tough to take a bite out of, they're so tall. I just take them out of the rolls and eat them with a knife and fork. Three good-sized ones for $11, not a bad deal.
