I recently discovered Chimay beer and I love it. I've only seen/had it at Commonhouse. Can my fellow Charlotte hounds tell me other restaurants and or bars that serve it? Thanks!

I don't know about restaurants, etc., but it can be bought at the Fresh Market in Asheville. It should probably be available there in the Charlotte area, too.

Welcome to Belgium, a magical place where the sun always shines in your glass. Chimay is a darn fine beer - especially the blue label - but it's probably below average when compared to the broad, glorious spectrum of Belgian brews as a whole. But, I think you'll find that Chimay is common at most halfway respectable beer joints, being one of the more common Belgians in the U.S. Good luck and godspeed in your quest!

Oh, and sorry for the unwelcome commentary. I've had too much St. Bernardus Abt 12 tonight.

The Flying Saucer in University has it and I think Revolution Pizza and Ale House in NoDa also does. If you're just looking to buy some, Common Market in Plaza Midwood sells it.

Many restaurants in town have it, both on tap and in bottles. Just down the street from Commonhouse, Hawthorne's has it on tap. So do Revolution Pizza and the Pizza Peel. If you want to just buy it from a store, you can find it all over the place-- even Harris Teeter sells it. But if you prefer to go to a store that specializes in good beer, Common Market and Brawley's are two excellent options.

Your better off buying it at Southern Spirits, just south of Ballantyne and the state line. Or Frugual McDoogals. Both places sell it at a better price than you'll find in Charlotte. I've got a bottle, given as a gift, you can have! (I'm not a big fan). I don't think it's really that difficult to find. It's been around for a long, long time.

If you really want to explore the world of Belgian beer, go to Brawley's Beverage in Charlotte. Mike, the owner, is one of the key retailers in the state and a heckuva nice guy.

Yes, I've met Mike. A couple of years ago I returned from a trip to nyc where I had Hitachino Nest White Ale @ Momofuku Noodle Bar. I loved it and was having trouble finding it in CLT. Mike hooked me up and even sent me home w/ a special glass to use to drink it. Nice guy w/ a great beer selection.
