DTLA - Sunday Lunch
- wilafur Apr 9, 2009 10:23 AM
hey folks! gonna be in DTLA this sunday to volunteer at the midnight mission and was hoping to find a low key spot that is open (and good) to grab lunch @ 1-2pm.
a few thoughts are:
1. farmer boys for bfast, burgers, fried zucchinis & onion rings
2. grand central market for maria's seafood, tacos tumbres a tomas, etc
3. pete's cafe for burgers and bleu cheese fries
anything else worth checking out? not in the mood for japanese or jtown in general.
the only requirement outside of good food is that i need a place that can easily accomodate at least a dozen people without a problem.
Yxta Cocina is new, big enough to accommodate your group, and has gotten some very impressive early reviews on this board, with Das Ubergeek raving about their al pastor and others, including lotta cox, enjoying more elaborate dinners with drinks. They would certainly be convenient, on Central at Sixth. The only question is whether they'd be open -- their website is still listed as under construction, and some of the other sources are contradictory about their hours.
They're definitely open at that time. If I recall rightly they open at 11.30 daily and stay open through dinner (i.e., they don't close between lunch and dinner service). They have a big table that seats 14, shouldn't be an issue at all.
The tacos al pastor were great, the carnitas were OK, the zucchini blossoms were tasty but not mindblowing, the fish special I had was OK but the sauce was too salty.
