Galatoire's Advice

A friend and I will be visiting in early May, just after the end of Jazzfest.

I've never been to Galatoire's before, and I'm very excited. I've heard that Friday lunch is the quintessential time to go -- and so far, that's what we're planning. (We will not be in NOLA during the weekend.)

A few questions to you experts:

Would you recommend Friday lunch as the best option?
How dressy do women get for lunch at Galatoires?
About how much should we expect the tab to be per person?
What, in your opinion, are the "must-orders" at Galatoires?

Thanks so much for your help and advice!

Susan

you really cannot be overdressed there; everyday is an occasion there.
Galatoire's is actually a bargain for the food, but it's the alcohol that drives up the tab as most are celebrating any and everything.
my faves are oysters rock, oysters en brochette, souffle potatoes and fried eggplant, seafood stuffed eggplant, lamb chops bernaise, fried soft shells w/crabmeat on top, sweetbreads, crabmeat au gratin...all the better to share and linger over.
    cheers!

Friday lunch is the Galatoire's experience, but due to it almost becoming a parody of itself other days during the week have become just as fun as Friday used to be, if that makes sense. Try a Thursday lunch if you want a more low key experience.

Here is my thought on dressy. Why not? A sundress or cocktail dress should be sufficient and fitting. You will have more fun and likely attract more "table-hoppers" the better you are dressed.

Depending on booze, I would say you can get out of there under $100 a person.

Souffle potatoes, cocktails, shrimp remoulade, fried softshell if in season, brabant potatoes, lamb chcops, petite filet, bread pudding...

      Enjoy.

I definitely wouldn't wear a cocktail dress to lunch! But a nice sundress or pantsuit is nice.

Perfectly sound advice--I'd add canape lorenzo...crabmeat Yvonne is always good and crabmeat sardou if you want to stop your heart.

Ladies who go with me adhere to the old Duchess of Windsor look.
