good place for a 90th birthday?

My Grandma is coming to visit from the Midwest and since all of my family will be in Los Angeles (35-40 people) as well, we want to throw her a nice birthday party to celebrate her upcoming 90 years! She is energetic, fun, and in great shape for her age so she doesn't need any sort of special access or anything like that. I do think she would like some sort of brunch or "tea". So far I was thinking The Inn of the Seventh Ray in Topanga, or the tea place on 3rd, near La Cienega (I have been there once but forgot the name). We do have a large party though and would like to rent a private room. Any suggestions?

Many thanks to everyone for these great ideas. We ended up booking the party at The Getty restaurant which seemed very nice and a great way for the out-of towners to visit the museum as well.

These places suggested alls seem pretty fancy and pricey. Something more fun and age appropriate -- and on the EAST SIDE!

      Tam O'Shanter (Los Feliz) OR
      Taix (Echo Park)

We are actually looking to do something on the East Side as well/instead. That's where most people are staying (nearly everyone if from out of town). Suggestions for the East Side? Thanks!

Was going to suggest Taix as well.

Not quite as east, both Campanile and Ca Brea have private rooms - my thought is grandma would enjoy the former a lot

Eastside also has Edendale Grill tho food is less consistent here

Moun of Tunis has a private room

Probably not far enough east, Cecconi's

Might Dim Sum be an enjoyable option?

How about the Restaurant at the Getty Center?

          Or maybe Saddle Peak Lodge?

Tea at the Montage Hotel in Beverly Hills was very nice. http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/6088... I believe you could get a private room. Doing a tea rather than a full meal will keep the costs down. I think the tea was $25 a person and there was a lot of food, which was very tasty. Very elegant china. If you want to do a tea and $25 pp is within your budget, I think it would be a great place for a 90th birthday party. Congratulations to your grandmother!

Sitting outside on the patio at Chez Mimi would probably be really nice and enjoyable.

I am not sure....I am waiting to hear what sort of budget we have but it may not fit the Bel Air, although it sounds lovely.

Although it will be pricey, you cannot possibly find a better setting for a very special occasion than the outdoor terrace of the Hotel Bel-Air. Yes, the food has slipped there over the years, but I still think you could count on them doing a memorable brunch or lunch on their magnificent terrace overlooking L.A.

We just celebrated my father-in-laws 90th at Joe's (on Abbott Kinney) for brunch. There were only 6 of us, but I'm sure they would accommodate you either on the patio or inside.
The experience was great and quite reasonable $-wise.

You are probably thinking of Chado Tea Room on 3rd.

A hotel would probably accomodate everyone more comfortably. The Huntington in Pasadena or the Belvedere at the Peninsula in Beverly Hills both do major tea.
