Sometimes I almost enjoy a hangover, because it gives me an excuse to eat the junkiest food in the world. My top picks are

1) MCDONALDS--You can't beat it. #2, (two cheeseburger meal) w/o cheese, extra onions, pickles, ketchup and mustard, with a Coke.

2) PIZZA HUT--Medium cheese pan pizza, extra sauce, twenty piece boneless buffalo nuggets, mild.

3) CARLS JR--5 piece chicken strips with honey mustard and BBQ for dipping, fried zucchini, with ranch dressing

4) PANDA EXPRESS--Orange chicken, chow mein, veggie spring rolls and cream cheese rangoons (no crab)

5) ASTRO-BURGER--Garden delight (veggie burger) no cheese, extra thousand island, small onion ring, ranch for dipping, and a cherry coke.

All of this eaten in bed, watching some really trashy TV. YAY! Best day ever.

That’s what hooked me. I remember doing that so well. Some of my best hangovers were spent reunited with the same DB’s from the night before watching the worst of the worst movies (Pauly Shore, derivative 80’s teen-sex comedies...) all the while piggishly indulging in fast food.

Now, I’m lucky to stay awake long enough to _get_ drunk! :-P

But, to answer your question, my go to hangover food has always been bacon and eggs.

Step #1 addendum - WITH a big bottle of water. Best hangover cure I've ever found is a 20-oz bottle of water before bed - no more, no less. That seems to be my magic number.

If I forget or can't be bothered (which seems to happen more frequently the older I get), any form of salty, greasy potato goodness is required the next day. If I can get to one, diner potatoes are the ideal. A bag of potato chips or an order of fries if I can't be bothered to find food until after noon or there's no diner in stumbling distance. And rehydrating with Diet Coke. For some reason, this is the only thing that can make me start to feel human again. A liter of Diet Coke later, I feel like myself.

If we're ending the night with some hangover-prevention, then a big heaping plate of poutine (with an automatic defribulator on standby for the impending heart attack). If it's the morning after too much tequila, then a big fry up of eggs, bacon and toast.

I agree with the poutine, but without cheese for me...a simple fry&gravy.
Also any kind of cheapo chinese food. Not the stuff from chinatown (which would work too), but from a place likely called Imperial Wong or Jade Dragon
(names I got from my handy chinese restaurant name generator, http://newmoanyeah.com/2004-features/062104_chinese_food_restaurant_name_generator.php)
delivered from two towns over, with most likely a hairy italian cook.
Agree with pancake, a caesar helps get the edge off.
Another good one is a greasy pepperoni sub on extra fresh bread.

But of course, its all dependent on the severity of the hangover...you ever had one of those beer/wine/Jack/champagne hangovers where suicide seems to be a solid option?
Where just the thought of eating is painful?
For those (thankfully becoming a rare event) I can only stomach a weak beef broth (boiled marrow bones and beef rib) infused with tomato juice.

One evening after they had a particularly hard night the night before, I saw them eating something behind the bar and asked them what it was. They said it was the best Mexican hangover cure they knew of... fresh cucumbers, peeled and cut into chunks and then heavily doused with your hotsauce of choice. One taste and I was hooked - and they were so right about it being a great hangover cure.

One of these usually does the trick for me:
McD's fries, a jumbo coke( I usually get 2, drink one w/fries and put the other in the freezer to get slushy)

rice water to settle the stomach and 2 Aleve

Spicy Bloody Mary

There is some sort of voodoo they do with the way they set their fountains. Because they definitely have the best Diet Coke. It actually annoys me how much better it tastes there, and I have tried every iteration of diet soda known to man.

A salute to those who can bear to put solid food in their stomach DURING a hangover. I don't get hangover headaches, but my body seems to overcompensate by tripling up on the nausea. Lukewarm tap water is about the heartiest thing I can ingest on those regretful mornings.

Now for post-hangover hunger, a Frisco Melt from Steak 'n Shake cannot be beaten. For you non-midwesterners, a Frisco Melt is two crispy-thin beef patties, with american cheese melted between them, drenched in thousand island dressing, and enfolded in two slices of cheap bread. The outsides are coated with what I presume is some kind of butter substitute and the whole thing is crisped up on a griddle. When eaten sober it makes me want to scrape the grease off my forehead with a credit card. When eaten post-hungover it's like Dorothy using the oil can on the Tin Man.
