Where to find beef ribs?

We were so sad to hear what happened to Uncle Pete, what a great guy, who just happened to make the best BBQ I personally have ever had, we went there twice a month and I became addicted to the BEEF ribs, we felt so bad for the entire family, what a tradjedy, so very sad. My question to you is "DOES ANYONE KNOW OF ANYPLACE ELSE THAT HAS BEEF RIBS"? Lots of pork ribs around but I don't know of anyplace in the Boston area that makes beef ribs, thanks in advance!!!

  1. Roadhouse in Brookline has beef ribs. I've had them a few times and really enjoy them.

Red Bones in Somerville also has them.

I have been to Redbones and I have to say if you know anything about authentic BBQ then you will steer clear of Redbones, I found it to be of very poor quality, and they rush you in and rush you out, not to mention the place is disgustingly dirty, I can't for the life of me figure out why there is a line to dine there. I will check out the Roadhouse in Brookline, I also heard about a place called "Arlington Blue Ribbon", anyone ever dine here. I have to say I am so upset that Uncle Pete's closed down, now we have to find a new place that has GREAT beef ribs, if such a place exists. Please send all recommendations, thanks!!

Blue Ribbon is my favorite BBQ in town. There is one in Arlington and another in Newton. I don't know if they do beef ribs, because I like my pork. You could call and ask.

Redbones has never gotten my love, and I've heard awful things about the Roadhouse in Brookline, although I've never been myself. Another option to call is Flames, in Brookline. Let us know what you find.

Redbones seems to be one of those spots that coasts on their reputation. It use to be great bbq.

I have to say that Redbones, which was down on my list for a year or so after a couple of bad meals, has been on top of their game the last three visits. Really fantastic and juicy chicken and St. Louis ribs. I suggest you give it another shot.

The Blue Ribbon in Arlington is the 2nd BBQ store for them, the first is in West Newton and, yes, this is good, not great authentic bbq. I have had beef ribs at the Pit Stop BBQ in Mattapan on Morton Street, though I prefer their pork ribs; the Pit Stop is authentic and very good bbq, is a small take-out only open on Thursday, friday and Saturday. I would recommend the Blue Ribbon over the Roadhouse in Brookline based on what I have read about the Roadhouse.

Unfortunately Blue Ribbon does not have beef ribs.

        2. Firefly's in Natick (I think they are in Quincy and Marlboro also) has fairly good beef ribs. The Village Smokehouse in Brookline also has them. Seems like the attitude in authentic barbecue circles is that beef ribs aren't "real" barbecue, and I guess that's because of the relatively short period of time needed to smoke them. I think they tase great, though.

          1. re: nsenada

Well, no, the issue is that beef ribs are almost entirely a Texas thing -- even more so than brisket -- and sadly, there aren't any barbecue places here in town that specialize in Texas-style.

            1. re: nsenada

That is Framingham, not Natick. They do not have beef ribs, unless that changed very recently. THere is nothing inauthentic about beef ribs, but as another poster suggested they tend to be a Texas specialty. I did have great ones in Marietta, GA once.

They did have them a couple months ago, and it looks like they are still on the menu. 20 bucks, though.

            2. Best beef ribs I've found in Boston are at Pit Stop BBQ in Dorchester. Prices are low and although I'm usually a pork rib fan, I actually prefer beef when ordering from here.
