I don't have much experience with Buffalo Mozz other than in restaurants. A friend and I bought a container each on Sunday. Both were semi firm on the outside and oozing on the inside. Is this bad? My friend tossed hers, I'm not sure that it should be. Any advice?

Perhaps you bought burrata? If so, it's supposed to be oozy. But it does go bad quickly.

You might get more responses if you put this on the General Topics board.

Fresh Mozzarella is just that - Very Fresh. It's packed in whey so it is moist. As it ages it gets denser. It does have a slight tart taste when fresh but you'd know if it was off.
Does it smell sour or rancid? Is there a sell by date on the package?

Sounds perfect: A little rubbery on the outside, creamy on the inside. That is the way it should be.

It was not burrata and it didn't smell sour. But it didn't have a texture like I've had in restaurants. I ate it not knowing any different, but had no ill effects. I also have an iron stomach. :)

Thanks to all. I had a salad with the cheese and again no ill effects. I kinda like the oozy-ness. :)

Very soft on the inside is the way buffalo mozzarella is supposed to be. It is delicious. You might have been expecting boccocino. That is more rubbery all the way through.
