i am heading out to Boston for a convention at the end of the month and will be staying at the Intercontinental Hotel. I am looking for some good easy places to go have a good beer with better than average bar food. After 12+ hour days i don't want anything complicated.
a good place to get a pizza that is close by with good beer would also be great.

Not too far on Broad Street are a series of Irish type pubs. I would suggest JA Stats. The food is pretty good. Around the corner is Umbria - not a pizza joint but good Italian.

On Broad there is also The Times, The Littlest Bar and Dooley's. All basic beer and grub. Stay away from Vintage. Overpriced food and drinks.

Lucky's on Congress St just a couple of blocks over the bridge on the right would fit your description well on a weeknight for dinner - huge two-sided bar with good basic food, drafts, and service - until the throngs arrive on weekends. It would also be a 10-minute or less walk through downtown to Silvertone, where the food is way above average, but it can get pretty crowded.
