Balducci's closing in Ridgefield, CT
Upscale supermarket Balducci's is closing at the end of the month along with several of the chain's other stores.
Another victim of the economy.
Some in the media have made fun of the situation by saying Ridgefielders will have to search elsewhere for their caviar and foie gras....but the store was more than that.
It brought in all kinds of products, including excellent artisanal breads, from New York which saved me a trip. I bought my organic turkey there at Thanksgiving time. It was one of the few places around where I could find one, and it was the cheapest per pound. For lunch you could get a sandwich for $5.99 that was big enough for two meals.
I spoke to some of the staff. They had no clue until the public announcement was made a week ago about the closing. They are scrambling to find other jobs....good luck.
The vacancy will make the second large one in the building. Nothing like the start of a ghost town....

Is the store in Westport going also? Maybe if they lowered their prices they would still be in business. I don't mind paying a bit more but this place would kill you!

According to Dan Woog, the Westport Balducci's is staying open. From http://06880danwoog.com/:
