Luella's is moving to Gusmo's old spot - Asheville

Well, the Citizen-Times is reporting that Luella's BBQ is moving into the spot on Merrimon Avenue where Gusmo's was. A good move for me (I live about a block from there) but not so much for South Ashevillians.

From all I hear, Luella's will be opening in their new location on Monday the 6th. Big pile of wood outside.... good sign.

We ate there today. Line out the door. Staff was ready and the owners were so happy. Despite the line service was quick and food was solid. I wish them the best - really think this is a good addition to the neighborhood. I still think 12 Bones is a little better but Luella's is still a good place. They said they will be offering table service at night. Lunch is order at the counter. ABC should be in by the end of the week and they will have about 15 beers or so on tap. Finally another place on Merrimon to grab a beer and some good food and sit outside. They have a pretty big patio.

Good news. I live about a block from there so I'm afraid I'll be a regular.

did 12 Bones South run them off???

That's what I think. That and they'll have more room and a bit of outdoor dining at the Gusmo's location. Plus there are no other BBQ restaurants in North Asheville and the proximity to UNCA.

This is great news! I love Luella's and this is also near my house. Did it say when they would be open?

Best I recall, they'll do some renovations and then open. The article said they'd be open at the South location until then. I guess we'll just have to watch for the reno activity to ebb.
