looking to buy gefilte fish for my seder Wednesday. any recommendations here in center city? i noticed that Bachus Market on 24th and Spruce has a passover menu. has anyone tried theirs? in the past, tried and dislike whole foods' and kibbitz's. don't like sweet gefilte fish. desperately miss all my choices back when Iived in NYC (citarella's, 2nd ave. deli, zabar's etc.). haven't found the drive out to Murray's in the burbs worth it. thoughts?

  1. Bacchus is good. Rachael's Nosherei at 19th and Sansom has a good passover menu that's available for takeout.

    1. Oh how I miss Irene's gefilte fish, from the old store on 20th street. Thank you.

Me, too. [Sniff] That was the most wonderful place to eat or get takeout with a side of mother-love.

      2. I am so with you! I don't like the sweet style either, which seems very popular around here. I have started to doctor up the jarred stuff, with better results than any take-out. I just get the non-sweet jar of Mother's, put it in a pan with a little chicken broth, top with carrots and onions and some fresh herbs, and bake for half an hour.
