Danny's Diner owner passes away

Condolences to the Escobar family. I brought a friend last weekend for their delicious corned beef hash and home fries and they were closed for family reasons. Later found out that Danny has died that weekend. Very sad. Many thanks over the years for good food served with honesty and care.

Sad news. I reviewed it in The Phoenix in Feb 2008. I think they'd opened in that location around summer 2007.

The Somerville News said that they are definitely closing for good.

Another sad story concerning the Boston-area restaurant scene. Thoughts and prayers certainly go out to the family...

This is indeed very sad and the closure will be a loss to the area.

I must say though I'm curious about how long they had been in their current location. Had they been anywhere else before that? I was sure they opened in only the last year or two, but reports suggest otherwise.

Mass Ave Restaurant in Cambridge was owned by him. I don't know if he sold it before opening Danny's Diner. I used to go to MAR a lot..
I think he also used to own a convenience store.
Very sad.

I drove by yesterday and noticed they were open...

They were definitely closed around 8 p.m. as I passed on foot -- but I'm not sure of their weeknight opening hours.

I walked by yesterday around 6 pm and noticed that on the side window they had the "Yes We're Open" sign, but by the front door they had a "Closed" sign, so maybe they forgot to take down the Open sign? They were definitely closed - the place was dark and empty.
