Traveling through Downeast
I have been searching the boards for some places to go and I think I have found a few good ones but I am still looking for some suggestions on some cheap places and I need specifically a place for great chowder. We will be traveling Route 1 from Ellsworth to Lubec and will also be in the Bar Harbor area the week before Memorial Day.

I can confirm that Chester Pike's Galley in Sullivan is now open. Tues-Sat from 6am-2pm and on Sun from 7am-2pm. Also, they have a fabulous Friday night supper (from 4:30-8:30pm) with great specials and fabulous homemade desserts. Their bread, rolls and desserts are all from scratch. There are lots of locals that eat here, and their prices are pretty decent.

Though not too far out of Ellworth, Chester Pike's Galley in Sullivan is dandy. Check to see if they'll be open by Memorial Day. Also, when in Lubec, if you venture over to Campobello, Family Fisheries can be really, really good.

There's also a nice little candy shop downtown Lubec with extremely nice owners. They make their chocolates and do a pretty nice job of it. Stock up on the chocolate-covered wild blueberries. I second the Family Fisheries recommendation as well.
"The White House" in Jonesboro used to have some great mud-flat pie and a decent breakfast, but have since changed over to a take-out business (last year was the switch I believe). Didn't even bother going last year, but not sure how it is. Others may be able to recommend it or not.
