I'm attending a friend's reading tomorrow night at Booksmith, on the Haight. Never been there, and am rarely in the City. Can anyone recommend a decent restaurant? I am hoping not to spend more than $30 per person (Will not be drinking wine, since I'm driving back to the peninsula) Thank you!

Kanzaman is a Palestinian restaurant about 2 blocks up on Haight that's very good. There's also Cha Cha Cha's and Citrus Club,

Magnolia Brewpub has excellent house-made beers, as well as sausages, cured meats/salumi, burgers, etc... It's a few blocks up Haight from Booksmith at Masonic. Should be in your price range.

Thank you all who replied, I'm planning to return to the Haight soon. I loved the night scene there! My friend and I ended up eating at Cha Cha Cha. We entered at 6:30, and didn't have to wait. Just half an hour later, there was a line out the door.

I had lechon asado (sooo delicious!) and chanced sangria. My friend had paella. We shared our plates. Both meals were so delicious (and I was interested that the Cuban version of lechon is so different from the version I grew up with in the Philippines!) Bill, with tax, was $32.
