No, I'm not asking you to help me look for it in my cupboards... I tried to post this before, but it got moved to "chains" for whatever reason. Anyway, TJ's has stopped selling King Arthur flour in favor of their "own" brand. Wahh!! The clerk was kind enough to tell to me that it is NOT sourced from the KA peeps. It always sold really well here in Oakland, CA and was often featured up front with those "last minute necessities". Is this true of ALL TJ's, or just out here? Safeway sometimes has it, but it's like $6.00 for 5 lbs.!! I don't wanna go back to Gold Medal or Pillsbury's Best. Shall we all organize a peaceful demonstration? Kumbaya anyone?... adam

KA announced on their website that TJ's was dropping them. They do list alternative sources on their site. I'm on the east coast so there are lots of stores that carry it here.

I think you can order KA online and definitely it's available at Whole Foods, if you have one nearby. Likewise, the bigger health food stores stock it. I mean the crunchy groceries, not the GNC vitamin type places, kwim?

Thanks to all for the replies. I think my local smart & final carries the 10 lb. bags @ a good price. My point was, I can FIND it here, but 2 years ago it was $2.79 for 5 lbs. @ TJ's and now it's like $5 0r $6.00 @ safeway, Lucky's, Whole Food, etc. Was trying to find a good source w/out paying the premium price. I know prices have gone up due to the "fuel crisis", but will they ever stabilize now that it's "over" (hee-hee... I know the answer to THAT one!)

The somewhat new book, Artisan Bread in 5 minutes a Day, hasn't helped either. They specifically recommentd King Arthur, so now the demand is even higher. If you aren't familiar with the book, go check it out. Easy peasy, very little effort & very nice result.

I buy online and they ship promptly. I've been very happy and I don't have to compromise buying only what the store will carry, which are the fast movers.. I buy the French flour mix and high glutin flours, among others. Sometimes I mix them to get the results I want. I get the cake flour for making fluffy pancakes.
