Grand Lake Farmer's Market updates (Oakland)

Saw a couple of stands I haven't seen before this week:

Pug's Leap: gorgeous artisanal goat cheese. They had three kinds available - a very mild, buttery fresh one, a gloriously mushroomy one (the Pave, which I ended up buying), and another lovely, slightly aged, creamier one.

Flying Disc Ranch - I'd had their dates at Chez Panisse before, and remembered their honeyed sweetness. I was overwhelmed by the selection, so I just bought half a pound of whatever delicious thing they happened to be sampling that day. I'm looking forward to trying some of the others soon. They've apparently been at my Farmer's Market for a while, but they only come every 3 weeks.

Massa Organics: I've seen these guys around for a few months - they were featured in Saveur a while back, along with an excellent technique for cooking brown rice (rinse, boil in water for 30 minutes, drain, steam in covered pot X 10 minutes - yields tender, separate, fluffy grains that show off their nutty flavor to their greatest advantage). It's nice to be able to have easy access to their rice.

I had my eye on the pork knuckles at the Roli Roti truck--they were new to me, but we ended up trying the BBQ from Phat Matt's instead. I tried the pulled pork, which had a nicely vinegary flavor, but didn't knock me out. I regretted not going with my original impulse.
