Any info on "Bistro Saint Germain" in Lower Haight?
The pioneer restaurant next to the Cafe International on Haight at Fillmore, Visit Thailand, has finally departed. The food seen through their window always looked like spaghetti-o's to me! Coming in is "Bistro Saint Germain," whose signage (draped over the window tables) promises Moules Frites and Escargot. Does anyone have any info? Is this related to the very busy Cafe du Soleil one block down on Fillmore at Waller?

Right, it's Laurent Legendre's new place with chef Eliseo Soto Dimos from Plouf. Laurent also has L'Petit Laurent in Glen Park and he used to run Clementine in the Inner Richmond.
Bistro Saint Germain is also supposed to have a reasonably-priced weekly prix-fixe menu just like the other restaurants do.
P.S. I love the Saint Germain plaza in Paris!

Bistro St. Germain did away with the prix-fixe and now does tapas. It looks like most of the items stayed the same though, and they're just in smaller portions.
I went before the menu change and was very impressed with the savory food, but thought the desserts needed a little work.

Service was charmingly attentive and well-paced without being obsequious; the food was delightful and substantial; every table was occupied at 7:30 pm tonight.
It was a very fine evening with a 2003 Muscadet...a refreshing cherry tomato salad with feta, Lentil and Bacon soup, Bavette with gratin dauphinois, my favorite Mussels with red pepper, garlic and herbs, green beans, sauteed bass with ratatouille, the very delightful pear sorbet with St. Germain liqueur of elderflowers. Least successful was the Tarte Tatin with Caramel ice cream - cloyingly sweet and heavily overdone.-----
