early dinner, 50's between Ninth and Fifth

This is for TONIGHT (4/4/09)! Help!

Any good, reasonably priced food in the area. Diner OK, or up from there. Say, $25 or under without drinks. Thanks!

  1. Depending on what you order, you might be able to manage that budget at Uncle Nick's, on 9th, b/t 50th & 51st. Tasty Greek food. Menu on

    1. RGR's Uncle Nick's rec is a good one. Also, Island Burgers and Shakes (across the street from Uncle Nick's) has very good burgers and chicken sandwiches and is just a bit more sit-down-y than the local burger alternatives. Angelo's Pizza, Broadway between 53rd and 54th (under the Late Show marquis), is fantastic. And Men Kui Tei - 56th between 5th and 6th - and Menchanko Tei - 55th between 5th and 6th - are two of the best ramen spots in the city (let alone midtown). All are well within your budget.

Roberto Passon at 50th and 9th is right at the edge of your boundaries. Reasonably priced Italian fare that should fit in your budget if you order carefully.

I'm pretty sure Mechanko-tei is closed for renovation. You should call to check but I know Onigashima located next door is, and I thought I saw a similar sign when I went by yesterday.

Where did you end up going, and how was it?

I'm obviously not the OP, but I found this thread before heading to the city last weekend. We ended up at Roberto Passon and had a nice meal before the theater. Not too snobby and not too pricey, but really nice. My friend and I had our 15-year-old sons with us and they accommodated us as walk-ins even though they were almost full. So thanks for the recommendation.
