Barbeque in Edmonton

I drove by Smokey Joe's today, and I was wondering if there are any good , fresh barbeque/wood fire smoked meat and rib places in Edmonton. Most of the experiences Ive had in Edmonton ended up being reheated meat with sweet sauce on top, the last ones being ribs at Ric's Grill and at Packrat Louie.

  1. felix, I would as well like to know what others have to say on the topic. I don't remember the last time, if ever, that I had great southern style BBQ in town. I've had good Asian style BBQ here, but got my last fix when I was in Vancouver at Memphis Blues.

    1. Did you try Smokey Joe's? A couple of my friends swear by it. Just curious.

You make me Laugh with all your comments Felix You drove by a 25 year old oklahoma bbq rest and are wondering if there is any good fresh wood smoked bbq in this city LOL you should have stoped the place has been packed every time we have been and the food is frigin fantastic,,, lol they even try to sell ya dessert and he plates are enormously full... Had the most amazing beef rib have never had one that big even took pictures,,,,,, So dude I read all the comments on here as I am a foody lol maybe u should make a reservation cause non of there BBQ comes smothered in bbq try it before u slam it dude

            Congratulations on your first post Mantro. You are absolutely right in that chowhounds should be fearless in their pursuit of food experiences. There is nothing wrong , however, in benefiting from the experience of fellow chowhounds in the case of a restaurant that has been around for 25 years and a few times around the block, literally.
            I did try it once after Joe Goldfeder, who brought Oklahoma BBQ to Edmonton and used to go to Bones just to argue about authentic BBQ sold it . I was just hoping for an update to avoid joyless calories ( like the hamburguer I had for lunch at Packrat Louies today)

              The place just aint what it used to be. I tried first about ten years and loved it. I have no idea what has happened but the last two visits were just awful. Won't be going back until we see a few reliable good reviews.

              I do enjoy Earl's ribs. Have you tried them Felix? I am not a chain guy, but they do make a good set of ribs.

                Earl's ribs are on my list of things to try, but i do not often find myself at Earl's.
