<title>Recipes board - recipes with no ingredients listed?</title>

I was searching the recipes board this morning and, during that search, came upon a recipe posted by one poster that seems to be copying and pasting a lot of recipes from the Internet. If that's allowed (copying/pasting willy-nilly from anywhere), that's one thing. See the following links for almost exact copies (a few minor changes in the directions):

http://www.foodtv.ca/recipes/recipedetails.aspx?dishid=9154
http://www.eatshrinkandbemerry.com/section/view/?fnode=69

BUT.....per the recipe posted on Chow's Recipe board at the top of this post, the recipe makes absolutely NO sense. There are no ingredients listed except the item in the directions, but there are *no* quantities of those ingredients in the directions.

If we use the "Report" feature on a recipe (and I did on this one earlier this afternoon) is it removed or is the poster asked to fix it? Or is it ignored?</content>

<content>Hi, Linda, we'll take a look at that poster's recipe submissions.

If you report a recipe, it goes into a queue to be reviewed, and what happens (deletion, request that they fix it, etc) depends on what the specific problem is. </content>

      <content>But I see it continues:

this recipe - http://www.chow.com/recipes/19111?tag=main_body;recipe-19111

is a word-for-word copy/paste of this recipe: http://www.aarpmagazine.org/food/recipeguide/Articles/a2004-10-22-rec_art.html/?recno=329&amp;unique_id=d5257881236890311

And this recipe has absolutely no quantities on ingredients: http://www.chow.com/recipes/19089?tag=main_body;recipe-19089

And many other recipes are up there, copied from sites like The Food Network - without ingredient quanitities listed, but directions are copied/pasted.

I'm not just picking on this one person, but with the number of recipes this person has out there, his posts stand out when you click on the Recipes link.

Chowhound has always ALWAYS been very cognizant that recipes should not be copied word-for-word from other sites - ingredients and quantities, yes - but directions should be paraphrased. Doesn't seem to be happening anymore.</content>

The same people are still up to their big fun; they're all over the place. Since they're not carefully monitored, I'll just find recipes elsewhere.</content>

<content>What occurred to me is that it looks like this poster is using Chow's recipe feature as a way to save recipes from other websites for their own personal use. Like an online recipe folder. Just copy and past the whole thing into one or two fields on the Chow recipe submission page and then they can access the recipe from their My Chow or whatever from other computers. The poster doesn't seem interested in putting anything up in a way that would be reasonably useful for others.</content>

<content>Hey, guys. This is interesting. The one and only recipe I've posted is that wacky bacon magic cookie bar riff I came up with after someone suggested we collaborate on a recipe. Most other favorite recipes are from other sources and not modified enough for me to claim them as my own. But from the time I've been spending here on CH, I have hacked some recipes that are now (I think) different enough to claim as my version. Would that be appropriate to post in the recipes section with acknowledgement that it's a hack (or based on) a recipe I found on allrecipes.com? I'm thinking of a reuben soup I made with my mom recently. It was really quite tasty, but we used less cream, more broth, added spices, etc. that made it our own. Let me know--do you think that's cool or no? I'll permalink to what it was originally and what we did so you can weigh in.

"My" recipe:
http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/603778?tag=highlight-4520799;post-content-4520799#4520799

Original recipe source:
http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Reuben-Soup/Detail.aspx

This was inspired by kchurchill5's mention of reuben soup on another thread, but I actively searched for a different recipe to play with as hers didn't sound as much like a reuben to me personally once i read it. But I did think it was a great idea--which is one of the reasons I love CH--it inspires me to be a more creative cook and baker! :)

<content>I had to laugh because my reuben soup has about 5 variations depending on who I am making it for. Some get more kraut, while others not. some more onions, some mustard ... I agree we all get ideas and then do our own take. I can't think of how many recipes I have "copied." And that took the idea and then made it my own. I think most recipes are created that way. I had something a few weeks ago and I came back and tried to recreate. I am sure 90 is probably the same ingredients but more of some, less for others and a few other spices, so to me it definitely different enough to call my own.

I am glad I inspired you to try something close at least :)

I just saw a picture on some web page for a green goddess shrimp. No recipe. Another inspiration to try.</content>

<content>Not sure what you were laughing about? But looked at your recipe (one of five!) and it doesn't bare much resemblance to kattyeyes. There's such a huge difference --- cabbage versus sauerkraut, potatoes versus no potatoes --- the similarity seems to end with the name. I made HER Reuben soup last night and it was one of the best things I've ever had. We were *moaning* over the deliciousness of it!!! Like kattyeyes I can't usually come up with anything that's enough my own, but that clearly was. Can't wait for leftovers for lunch, k-e.</content>
