Firecreek in Downingtown?
Anyone try the new Firecreek place in Downingtown?
It was supposed to open this week.
Look like a nice space. I wish they had prices on the website.

Nice atmosphere and a great building. For me, the menu is not as imaginative as the architecture. One of our group and I ordered the Delmonico steak, on the recommendation of our waiter. I haven't been this disappointed and angered by a meal in many years. The steaks (yes - both of them) were hunks of gristle and fat that left us both cutting through and through looking for the beef. The presentation did nothing to enhance the experience. The calamari appetizer was decent and other members of our group liked their Chilean Sea bass, but I doubt that I will ever willingly return. I can forgive one bad steak, but having the waiter push what the chef probably knew was an inferior meal is unforgivable - especially at these prices.

Funny you should ask. I was just there with a friend last night, which was their first night open to the public. We really enjoyed our dinner. The place was "abuzz" with lots of good energy. We had called earlier in the day to make sure that they'd be open. As it turned out, they hadn't yet received their liquor license, so they were offering two free drinks -- wine or beer -- with every entree. We didn't have reservations, so we had to wait about 20 minutes for a table, but as we waited in the bar area, they offered us a complimentary calamari appetizer. Of course, that was all opening night stuff, but we did enjoy our dinner. Steak entrees are generally in the $32-34 range. I had the filet, which was served with very lovely asparagus and buttermilk mashed potatoes. Everything we had was very good and well prepared. An interesting side note -- they will allow you to bring in your own wine. Last night they weren't charging a corkage fee, but after they receive their liquor license there will be a small fee for corkage.
The space is quite interesting, too. It was a paper mill in a former life, and one wall that runs the length of the restaurant is all exposed stone. There's a smaller dining room with a fireplace, and there's a long, high communal table in front of the open kitchen. There will also be outdoor seating in nice weather.
