Saturday night in Somerville
with a bunch of young teenagers and parents! Any thoughts about where to go, that isn't geared toward young professionals looking for love, but is a cut above Mike's in Davis Square? We'd be getting there around 7, and would like to be able to sit together at a long table, or maybe a kids table and parents table.

How about Oasis on the Medford line for Brazilian? It's pretty busy on Saturday but 7 is a little early for that crowd. Meat on swords! If you go plan on splitting entrees, they are enormous. Full bar, too. And the Brazilian TV might entertain the teens.

Redbones sounds like a good fit - has a few long tables, is family friendly and wallet friendly as well. Also has a kitschy decor and it is bustling - enough so that animated teenager conversation is hardly disruptive - and in fact probably adds to the ambiance. I think a group of teenagers would really like all the elements of Redbones - AND the Davis Square municipal parking lot is but a few paces around the corner!
Check out the menu here:

You could go to the Paddock - plenty of room there - good pizza for everyone.
Vinny's at Night could probably take you - give 'em a call - they take reservations -EDIT: Small Plates is right
Redbones is the perfect place.

re: Gabatta

Interesting. Gabatta, were you of the camp (as have been I) who thought Redbones hadn't been so hot for the past couple of whiles?
Two Italians to add to the mix that should work for a mid-sized group:
Sagra - haven't been in a while, but although it has never been my favorite, the food strikes me as perfectly acceptable. Right in Davis Square, definitely a couple of notches above Mike's in terms of atmosphere. The bar can be mildly "scene-y", but the rest of the place is fine.
Gran Gusto - if you'll have a car, this is bar-none my favorite Italian in the area, particularly for their outstanding Neapolitan pizza, but everything is consistently pretty excellent. In North Cambridge, about a 10-minute drive from Davis Square, free parking in back.
