Goat Meat In W. MA/VT

There is a great article in yesterday's Times about the joys of goat meat. So know I want to try and cook some. Has anyone bought goat meat in or around the Pioneer Valley or Brattleboro? Does the Brattleboro Coop carry it? They have a great selection of lamb and greass fed beef as I recall.

Have never seen goat at WF in Hadley. Try Mexican/Central American markets. Ahh, cabrito!

    2. I haven't found it in my travels through WMA, WNH or VT. I've asked at Mi Tierra in Hadley to see if they might have weekend specials and she said they never offer it. Please do report back if you find a source to purchase or a restaurant that serves it. It's delicious.

You can buy goat meat at the Shaw's just off exit 7 on highway 89 in Berlin, VT. I see it there all the time. :) It's even a great price. I keep being tempted by it but not quite buying it.

      2. i was talking to a sheep farmer (hope farm cheese) and they were saying that there is such a little market for goats meat that some goat farmers have had to just kill the bucks soon after being born because they can't afford them. which leads me to suggest getting a hold of a local goat dairy and buy a buck from them after he's been weaned (check craigslist, i've seen them for under 50 bucks (no pun intended)) and send him off to the local butcher.

        1. Not sure where you are JJ, but Blood Farm in West Groton Ma. has goat meat.
Might be a road trip for you, but if you're up for it, drive east on Rte. 2, and Blood Farm in West Groton Ma. might be the place.
Try a Blood Farm search on the Boston board.
          Good Luck!

          1. I would also suggest checking any of the local Asian markets. It's not Western Mass, but I get mine at the Asian market in Worcester by Clark on Main street (I believe it's the "Ha Tien Market"). The selection of seafood, poultry and meat are pretty amazing, as is the prices!
