O'Brien's Bakery Wollaston -Gone?

I noticed that O'brien's Bakery in Wollaston was boarded up and a new Asian salon was going in.

Are they moving or are they closed? That place was great.

With so many vacant storefronts around, what are these "leasing issues?"

Rents being raised so as to make it prohibitive to run your business?

Why raise the rent? I dont see how the market could support an increase. Better to have the rent coming in at a lower amount than to have vacant space that you can't lease out.

This happened on Newbury Street a year or so ago. Landlords forced businesses out with jacked up rents, then have had to suffer when no one came in to take the space.

        I hope they relocate soon.

I dont know the exact reason with O'Briens bakery but I do know that raising the rent to certain old time businesses and then lowering it for a new type of business is going on in Quincy.

Name Change: "Quincy, City of Presidents" now to be called "Quincy, City of Nali Salons"

Did O'briens sell pizza dough? Some times I get it from Montillio's.

        Criminy!

It was there about a month ago.... : - (

The neighborhood was in dire need of another nail salon though. Not.

It was a tough location. I'm amazed that Great Chow does so well. If there was a better parking situaton, my wife and I were looking to buy the Wollaston theatre when it went up for sale. That would've made an amazing sports / bar restaurant.

O'Briens was very succesful at that location, and for many, many years. They closed because of a leasing issue. As I understand it they were looking for another location, but I haven't heard anything on that recently.

There have been several "leasing issues" in that neighborhood as well as in North Quincy. My favorite barber had been asked to leave his location by his landlords.

Sadly, it does seem to be happening more frequently. For me, I genuinely miss the mocha cakes from O'Briens and I had hoped that they would find another location. My backup for now, is a cupcake from Babycakes.

Great Chow is actually trying to expand, but like everything else in Quincy, they are having a hard time with permitting, etc. You can guess what the "etc." is.

As far as O'Brian's is concerned, it must be the only place I don't agree on with Pegmeister. I won't be missing any of their cardboard bread, cakes or pasteries.

That's ok CocoDan we can't agree on everything. Besides you probably never had their mocha cakes.
